For those who work near the Fort area, you might want to drop by Paul Calvin’s deli at Rizal Drive for some affordable, but delightful lunch/dinner/snacks.

I’m actually surprised when I learned that Paul Calvin’s Deli is 100% Filipino owned company.  Judging by the name, I thought it was American.  It’s actually a restaurant, bakeshop and catering company all rolled into one.

One of my favorites is the Baked Sweet Potato with pineapples.  I didn’t expect much that sweet potatoes and pineapples would make a good combination.  It’s not that sweet and can be eaten as lunch or dinner.  I like it eaten with fried rice, actually.  Too much carb?  I don’t really care.  Haha.

Part of the buffet is an opportunity to have your pasta cooked the way you want it.  Just looking at the sauces, herbs, and the spices already makes my mouth water.

I just asked the chef to make my pasta mildly spicy, yet creamy, and he was able to cook one that really tasted like how I wanted it.  Amazing!

    cream spicy pasta

I should have asked how he did it.   But I guess I was too busy pigging out on this delicious pasta.  Maybe next time?

This must be one of the best tarts I’ve ever tasted.  Plus the fact that I love how the fruit and cream was arranged on top like a flower.

Now this one’s a novelty.  I’m not really a fan of malunggay and it amazes me how they could have put it in bread and made it into a delicious piece of loaf.  But then, it’s maybe because it taste like banana loaf.  Hmmmm.

KFC Rice Bowl – Italia Roma

It was my first time to see this rice bowl meal at KFC today when I had my dinner at Shangri-La mall.  It’s the same crispy, breaded KFC chicken that we all love with a unique sauce that tastes like mustard and sour cream and the sweet sauce they used to put on the other rice bowls.  And there are slices of fried eggplant on the side.  I love the dish actually, since there’s more chicken as compared to the previous rice bowls.  Also, the sauce doesn’t taste like another variety of the gravy used for their main chicken dishes.  KFC lovers, you got to try this!

I’ve read in many recent plurks about Wendy’s new burger, Baconator.  And many seems to be craving it, so I guess it must really taste good.  So I went out one time and had a takeout Baconator.

Well, one thing’s for sure: it looks like Wendy’s good whipping up a mashed up mess of bacon strips and burgers.  I’m not sure it looked like this because it was a takeout and if it would have looked better if served as dine-in order.  I don’t know what else was on the mind of the one in the kitchen who whipped up this sandwich, except for “I want to end this shift already!  Let’s get this over with!”

Well, it doesn’t really look that much presentable or appetizing.  But still, this bulky sandwich made up of six strips (and indeed, it contained six strips) of hickory smoked bacon and 2 beef patties, each 1/4 lbs., seems to fill up a craving for a heavy, high-fat meal.

From Wendy’s Nutrition fact page, here’s what exactly you’re getting eating this sandwich:

    • 830 calories (for a sedentary 50-kg person, that’s already half of the required amount of calories for the day)
    • 51 g total fat (for a sedentary 50-kg person, that’s already 2x the amount of fat he requires for the day)
    • 35 g carbohydrates
    • 56 g protein (for a sedentary 50-kg person, that’s more than half of the required amount of protein for the day.  Definitely not for those on low-protein diets like patients with renal disease)

But then, not really many people count their daily caloric intake, and are more concerned whether they liked the taste of their meal or not.  Taste-wise, it’s okay.  Presentation, definitely not presentable.  Healthy meal?  Definitely no.

Still, it’s a good burger sandwich.  I’d like another, one of these days.  But, of course, I can’t have that everyday.  And I’m not really a burger person so…
