I know most of the time, my carbo cravings lead me to Pepper Lunch.  However, pasta also is one of my favorite sources of carbs and I’m always in the lookout for tasty new servings.  And being the Shangri-La mallrat that I am (that is, whenever I get home early from the hospital), I ended up giving Green Tomato a try.  And I’m sure the first visit won’t be the last.

    vegetarian pasta

    Vegetarian Pasta

And for my first meal there, I ordered Vegetarian Pasta: a tasteful combination of juicy eggplants, zucchini, asparagus, mushrooms and penne pasta drenched in olive oil with herbs (I think I tasted rosemary in it).  Damn, it was hot!  Deliciously hot!  I love how the olive oil complemented the taste of the veggies.  And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a very generous dash of parmesan cheese!  The dish is available for P215 only, if I’m not mistaken.

    raspberry brewed iced tea

    Raspberry-flavored iced tea

I think adding flavors to iced teas is great!  It may be increasing sugar load for the meal, but it makes the drink more exciting.  I’m kinda tired of the boring regular iced tea.  The drink is available for P55.

    And, of course, dessert time!

dark chocolate orange with almond gelato

Dark chocolate orange gelato with almond

I know some chocolate purists wouldn’t want to put “poison” their chocolates by putting in other flavors, however I find that the contrast orange provides is a delicious alternative to having pure chocolate ice cream (or gelato).  I’m still looking for the almonds, though.  But overall, I enjoyed the dessert enough.  It’s available at P70 and has different flavors such as cherry vanilla and strawberry.

It’s good that I found another food hangout at Shangri-La.  Been quite guilty of hanging out at PL lately.  Haha.  And pasta cravings are insatiable, really.

I think many would be glad to know of Italianni’s new offer for this summer: Small Price For a Big Lunch.  I mean, the food is good but it could really be pricey.  But the new offer ensures the same quality good food but at a more affordable price.  And damn, there are five tasty menus to choose from.

    italiannis_pesci-in-vino-bianco

    Pesci in Vino Bianco (P295)

This one is for the fish lover!  Pesci in VinoBianco (Fish Fillet in White Wine) is white fish fillet, simmered in white wine and herbs, and served with spaghetti aglio e olio and grilled vegetables on the side.  The one I ate is a Dory fish fillet and gosh, I loved it so much I can’t wait for the next time I’ll be visiting Italianni’s again!  I highly recommend this dish!

    Pollo con Rucola (P295)

This one’s another favorite!  It is herbed roasted quarter chicken topped with arugula and drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette.  And, of course, it comes spaghetti aglio e olio and grilled vegetables.  It may be a little dry by some other people’s tastes, but I still love it.  It compliments perfectly the pasta, just like the Dory.  Yum, yum!

    italiannis_costina-brasatta

    Costina Brasatta (P350)

This is actually is loin back ribs braised in tomatoes and red wine, flavored with herbs and garlic.  Very tender meat but nothing really new.  Ho-hum.

(actually I was about to give it just 2 spoons, but I added another one for the tenderness of the meat that easily detaches from the bone.  It’s not everyday you’d find something as well cooked as that).

    italiannis_manzo-di-arrosto

    Manzo di Arrosto (P350)

This one’s a slow roasted imported rib eye served with spaghetti aglio e olio and grilled vegetables.  I heard from the chef that they cook this REALLY slow.  As in 8-hours slow.  One can go to work and come home to find a very tender, juicy steak such as this.  Haha.  So, remember that very well as you chew this very tender rib eye steak.  Also, remember that this is served only at Italianni’s Trinoma, High Street and Greenbelt.

    italiannis_spiedo

Spiedo del Pollo e Dei Pesci (P295)

This is pesto marinated chicken and spice-rubbed dory served with spaghetti aglio e olio and grilled vegetables.  It’s kind of a combination of the first two dishes I’ve mentioned in this blog post, but skewered.  I love this one too, but I’d rather have the Dory in white wine sauce.

So if these dishes look yummy to you, then I suggest that you head to the nearest Italianni’s restaurant.  The promo runs from March 9 to May 31 of this year.  So hurry up!  As for me, I’m already planning to visit the resto soon.  :-)

Hahahaha! And just when I thought that Racks have vanished into oblivion, I saw a branch at Greenhills in the Connecticut parking complex (and it was said that it has another branch in Makati).

I kinda miss the barbecue sauce that makes all the steaks yummier:

Though I’m not much of a steak fan, the barbecue sauce (the regular one, but I also like the extra spicy one) can also be used in their chicken dishes.

Hickory Smoked Chicken with steamed rice and garlic mashed potatoes

I love this chicken dish, not just because I’m a chicken person, but because it’s not very salty.  I’m not all that crazy about the mashed potatoes, though.  I’ve tasted something better but it’ll do.  And the original barbecue sauce all over the chicken is enough to make me forget the shortcomings of the mashed potatoes.  Also, the meal is only for P160.  Quite a good deal, I think.
