Several weeks back I was at Forum Robinsons and, while I was riding the escalator, I saw a lot of people lined up for something near the supermarket. It’s such a long queue similar to one in front of a lottery ticket store. I got curious, took a closer look, and discovered that those people are actually lined up to buy scramble.

Scramble? Isn’t that the street food reminiscent of my long, bygone elementary school days? (Hello, Hepa A!)

Seeing that there are a lot of people wanting to have it, I guess it must taste good. And look, only P7 per small cup!

OMG! Scramble nga! Haha!

The one on the photo above is actually a medium cup of the Manila scramble. It still looks like the original but now with toppings like cornflakes and marshmallows. Actually, one pick which toppings to be put on it.

Imagine, for P7 to P17 you can have a dessert already! It retains the original taste but with a “modern” twist. So, Scramble isn’t just street food anymore.

I’ve only heard of this place from friends and to my surprise, I found it just so near my place. Hidden in an almost obscure street, one would really be hard-pressed looking for this place, if one does not know what to look for. However, I’m glad that I was able to experience this place with some friends who brought me there.

This bottle of Marco Maci Dragonero red wine is actually worth a whopping P50,000!

Stepping into Galileo seem to have transported me in a different place. I really didn’t expect it would look like this. But definitely it’s a date place. Paintings, wines, and soft lights definitely can create a romantic ambiance. And, of course, Italian food! What could be more romantic?

Although one can order ala carte, it’s suggested that one tries the set menu (which are modified from time to time). We started with bruschetta with 6 different dips.

I can’t remember the names, but I do remember tasting an olive oil and basil one, salsa, and white-cream based sauce that tastes like carbonara. I had to stop myself from eating too much of the bread because I won’t get to taste the other dishes.

This is their classic garden salad, priced at P120, if I’m not mistaken. Nothing spectacular but I love the crunch of the lettuce. They absolutely taste fresh.

Spaghetti Arrabiata is wonderful. Not too spicy for my taste.

Carbonara is definitely creamy and flavorful. I think I forgot my name while eating this.

I like the seafood pizza better, which is weird for me because I’m not too much of a seafood-type of girl. But then, perhaps, that alone already speaks of the yummy taste of the pizza. I’d order this again.

Roast chicken was okay. But not spectacular. Enough said.

There are still other dishes to try and I have to go back to try desserts! Definitely a place that I’d visit again. Hopefully, on a romantic date. Hehehe.

Galileo Enoteca-Deli is found at 80 Calbayog St. cor. Malinao St., Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila

025344633

My rating:

Italian dishes are just one of my favorites in the whole world. So just imagine when my friends told me we’re eating at Buon Giorno, my face lit up and all the tiredness from 24-hours duty vanished. Pasta pasta time!

Buon Giorno’s a quaint restaurant located at Liberty Park along Shaw Boulevard. The interiors look shabby chic and I’m actually loving the pink lamps hanging from the ceiling (I wanted one in my room).

They served us Foccaccia bread while waiting for our entrees. It is soft and heavenly. I love dipping it in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

This is Buon Giorno’s Special, a salad of mixed fruits and vegetables drizzled with house dressing. This is entirely made of yum. I’m not much of a fan of salads. But a salad like this can help me get into a healthier eating habit.

The bruschetta is another dish to die for. This dish is made up of tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil sauce to be put on garlic toasts. I swear I almost felt full just eating this. And I can eat the sauce on its own because it’s that delicious!

I’m not that much impressed with the Spaghetti Vongole E Gamberetti (spaghetti served with clams and shrimps). It’s not that memorable. However, still a good-tasting dish.

Chicken Risotto rice, if I remember it right. I haven’t eaten anything like it before but it’s quite a pleasant surprise. I thought it looks bland-tasting, but it’s actually flavorful and I love every warm spoonful of it.

Lasagne Al Forno, layers and layers of spinach pasta, ragu, and cheese, is another food porn…so rich tasting it’s almost sinful.

For our pizza, we had a face-off of New York (assorted meat, bell peppers and cheese topping on a crisp, crusty dough) and Mare Pesto (a mix of seafood, basil, and pesto). Between the two, I liked New York better. Though I’m a fan of pesto, I just think the pesto and seafood combination served as a pizza didn’t cut well.

And with the number of good Italian dishes we had to digest that night, we didn’t order dessert anymore. But perhaps next time?

My ranking:

I’ve been a bit curious about this quaint little, country-style crepe shop that’s situated in the middle of a wing in the second floor of Shangri-La mall. The wonderful aroma emanating from that place is just so inviting! And so finally, I gave in today, hopped in, and gave La Creperie a try.

Le J.J., P215

I ordered something from their savory crepes, one called “Le J.J.” (which actually reminded me of an ex-boyfriend). Le J.J. is made up of ham and Emmental and Gruyere cheese, with tomato, garlic and chili flakes. I like that the cheese kind of melts in your mouth and is just warm enough not to burn the tongue. Tomatoes provide the contrast flavor and the chili is a nice finishing after taste. The crepe is also served with a side salad that’s also very elegantly tasting. I also ordered a mango-banana fusion that tastes decent enough and surprisingly cheap compared to other restos (only P50!).

I rather enjoyed my short visit and I’m looking forward to trying the other dishes from their gourmet sweet crepes like their bestseller, La Christine.

No, I did not start eating raw food. This is just a photo of my meal at Tong Yang SM Megamall before I started cooking it in butter. Nomnomnom! It’s quite a different experience, having to cook food on your own table. This one, however, is not for those who’re really hungry because they won’t be patient enough to do the cooking themselves, especially with over 50 raw ingredients to choose from. But the cooking itself is the restaurant’s novelty. And a nice conversation fuel too.

But then, the finished product is definitely worth the wait and effort! Tenderly coated and fried in butter, hotdogs, sausages, onions, bell peppers, curry scuttlefish, cream dory, and tofu tasted so fabulous!

Also, Tong Yang’s got a decent selection of desserts too. Here I combined coffee and chocolate ice cream in a cup, with rainbow sprinkles and candy-coated chocolate. Definitely a nice ender to the wonderful meal I had!

Now since I haven’t tried the other foods, I’m sure that I’ll be coming back…maybe soon.

Tong Yang is located at the 4th flr of SM Megamall Atrium.

“Stressed is Desserts Spelled Backwards” is the motto of this restaurant specializing in fruit desserts. Considering the amount of stress I’ve had lately, I definitely have to try have desserts in this place!

I just love the interiors! Definitely an instant upper! If you’re feeling stressed, just take a look around and get that happy streak at once. The place feels vibrant and I just couldn’t help but feel so “alive”. One would think red would be a stressful color. But perhaps, because it’s combined with white and the happy colors of summer (yellow, green, and orange as seen on the food portraits surrounding the store), it becomes a rejuvenating color. The place looks modern but never intimidating.

And now for the subject of my visit, Vanilla Lychee Margarita, which is one of their bestsellers. I’m a fan of vanilla ice cream, so I think I’d be a bit biased here. It’s been combined with vanilla before, but having this dessert “spiked” really makes it special. It’s light, sweet, and cool enough for the summer. It’s something you’d want to eat/drink while giggling with friends over some whacky story, short of being intoxicated in a bar. So, yeah, for a very hot summer that we’re having right now, Vanilla Lychee Margarita is just perfect. And guess what? It’s only P145 per serving (or only P100 if you don’t want it spiked), which can actually be shared.

My rating:

I’m definitely going back to try the other desserts, like Beauty Boost, Coconut Paradise, and Carribean dream.

Cocktales is located at the 5th floor of SM Megamall Atrium and there’s another store at TriNoma (though I’m not sure where it is located there).

So, go have desserts like no other and get de-stressed. :-)

One would naturally think of ice cream more frequently nowadays, with the summer heat slowly cooking us here in the metro. Luckily for me, I found this quaint, fairly new ice cream store while I was pondering those thoughts.

Now will you look at that! Goodbye, diet!

Stick House offers gelato on sticks and you can customize your dessert by picking your favorite toppings and dips. Gelato offered include coffee, pistachio, milk cream, and chocolate. Also offered are sorbets in mango and strawberry flavor. Gelato are priced from P70-P80 while the sorbets are priced P60.

Once you have your “base” ice cream, you choose your dip, which could be white or milk chocolate. You can fully dip your gelato or just half of it. Then, you sprinkle it with either almonds, hazelnuts, pistachio, or coffee.

For my first gelato stick from Stick House, I chose coffee gelato dipped in milk chocolate. This cost me around P115. After that first bite, I already fell in love with it. The milk chocolate isn’t too sweet and it compliments the slight bitter taste of the coffee gelato. It’s creamier than the regular ice cream on sticks actually. Yummy ! Now I have a feeling that I’ll be going back for more of this. And of course, I’ll try out the other flavors too (though I’m not so hot on pistachio).

My rating for this gelato on stick:

Stick House can be found at the basement of SM Megamall Building A. There are other branches, if I remember correctly, at SM The Block and TriNoma.

Finally, after having been first introduced to the delicious steaks of Everything At Steak through the goodwill of a colleague (it’s his birthday!), I get to visit the place today with my folks. I’m no great fan of steaks, but I’d gladly eat one that is both delicious and reasonably priced.

The restaurant looks homey and clean to me (a factor perhaps is that of the recent holy week holidays so they have time to cleanup LOL). Seriously, though, a friend says the place always look that clean and it’s huge plus for me. Who would want to eat in a dirty resto anyway?

T-bone steak with potato salad side dish and rice, P195

Believe it or not, everything above (except for the drink) comes at P195 only. It’s one big meal made especially for the bear-hungry customer. I wasn’t even able to finish all of it.

The T-bone steak is very juicy and tender. I especially like the combination of the New Orleans rub (the flavoring rubbed on the meat) and the barbecue sauce. The rub adds just the right amount of spice into the steak. One can actually have a number of combinations, as there are two available flavorings (New Orleans and Original) and several sauces (like peppersteak and original mushroom gravy). A bit fatty, though. But then, that’s T-bone for you.

My rating:

Cold Potato Salad, P38

The potato salad comes with the meal, but one can also order it as an additional side dish. Not that spectacular, but for the price, it’s already worth it. I like that they didn’t put that much mayonnaise on it. The potatoes were cooked tender enough.

You can actually choose which side dish you want to have with your steak: potato wedges, coleslaw, macaroni salad, and much more. What I would recommend is that you and your friends can order different side dishes as the servings can be good enough for sharing.

My rating:

Cream Dory with Macaroni salad and rice

My mom ordered the cream dory but I think I ate most of it (so maybe that’s the reason why I wasn’t able to finish my own meal)! I like the tender, white, sweet meat, complimented by the sauce (I’m sorry, I forgot to ask what it is called). I would have loved it more if it was pan-grilled. But still, it’s worth ordering. Macaroni salad is just average tasting.

My rating:

(for the cream dory)

(for the macaroni salad)
