    I had so much to do that I spent the entire day walking and going from one place to another that I must have worn out the soles of my shoes to oblivion.  And it was already 3 o’clock when I realized that I haven’t eaten a morsel since early morning.  Then damn hunger kicked in (haven’t you wondered how sometimes you’d totally forget to eat and not feel hunger, only to remember that you need to eat and then get hungry?)!

    Very much hungry and feeling hot (because of the damn weather we’ve got), I stopped by the first resto I saw, after I remembered that I was hungry:  Iceberg’s.

    So, it wasn’t really planned that I’ll be eating there.  And it isn’t actually the kind of place that I visit often.  But I’d say, for ice cream cravings, it’s one of the places to go to.

    Here’s what I’ve got for my late-lunch-afternoon-snack roundup:

    Home-style Spaghetti (P115)

    I’m particularly saddened because there’s too much cheese on it.  I love cheese, but when I’m eating spaghetti, I’d rather have less cheese so my tastebuds could concentrate more on the taste of the tomato-based sauce and the noodles. And the sauce is just too plain for my taste.  My mom definitely cooks better spaghetti (and I do too, methinks).

    Kahlua Chocolate Sundae (P110)

    A bit too pricey, I think, for a sundae, when I could have the same for less than P100 at Five Cows.  Nothing outstanding as it is just the usual 2 scoops of ice cream, with kahlua-infused syrup (which makes me wonder how much kahlua is actually in the dessert because I couldn’t really taste it), chocolate chips, whipped cream, and cherry on top.  Well, for ice cream lover like me, it’ll do.

    Maybe I should have ordered a banana split.  That ought to have brightened up the rest of my day.  Oh well…maybe next time.  But, on a second thought, maybe not really.  It just reminded me that I’ve got nobody to share the banana split with, as of the moment. :-(

    Much hype surrounds this chocolate variety from Goya, as bloggers began twitting, plurking, and blogging about it (later, I’ll try to link to goya dark mint blog posts that I can find).  So, of course, curious about what it tastes like, I scoured the nearby stores and even the bigger grocery stores in my place.  Even SM Marilao Hypermart!  But no Goya dark mint found.  There were other varieties like black & white and milk chocolate.  But no Goya dark mint.

    Fuck, I need to know how it tastes like!

    And guess where I found it, after all the hypermart and grocery stores I went to? The Mercury drug store, which is only 5 minutes away from my house.

    Aaaarrrgggh! But at least, now I know where I can have my dose of Goya Dark Mint.

    The tray of 9 pieces of round, minty dark chocolate goodness is wrapped in foil and packaged in a box.  It’s only P25 per box and can be stored in room temperature for a long time (as long as you don’t store it in a refrigerator first).  The chocolate tasted like that egg chocolates that I used to eat when I was young (and it’s manufactured by Goya too) and the mint was cool and goes together with the bittersweetness of the chocolate.  I must have wolfed down the content of the entire tray in less than 5 minutes.  So, big eaters should definitely buy another box, just to ensure satisfaction, although the recommended serving size is only 4 pieces.

    But fuck calories!  I want chocolate!

    So, yeah, if there’s a Mercury drug store near you, check in there first because they might have these already and save you a trip to the mall, especially when you aim only to satisfy a sudden craving.

    I love dark chocolates and dark chocolates with mints.  Goya Dark Mint chocolates taste good but not outstanding, compared with other mint dark chocolates I’ve tasted.  But it’s good enough to satisfy my cravings!

    A couple of days ago, I went back to my alma mater, UST, to get some documents and for a health consult.  And definitely, I’ve been away from it for a long time as I noticed a lot of changes: a relocated jeepney terminal, new restaurants and apartments, a new bookshop, and lots of internet hubs.  But, of course, there are still those which haven’t changed.  And so, I’ve decided to visit some of those which reminded me of my old med school days.  One of these places is S.R. Thai Cuisine, located in one of the streets in Dapitan.

    S.R. Thai has been one of our sources of daily nutrition as medical clerks, mainly because it was near the hospital and also it can satisfy a really hungry clerk, having a huge serving per meal.  Also, it’s quite comfortable to eat there because of airconditioning, something that a haggard clerk would truly appreciate.

    And so, I went down memory lane and reminisce my S.R. Thai experience.

    Beef Fried Rice (P65 now, but it used to be P55)

    This is definitely one of my favorites.  One can order a spicier version of this dish, but I like it better when I’m the one putting the sweet chili oil, that is made available in the condiments placed on each table.  This dish, plus a bottle of C2 and glasses of water, and I’m good to go.  You may have noticed that it’s a huge serving of rice, but any hungry clerk can easily devour this.

    And I think it still tasted the same.  Not quite extraordinary, but I love the chili sauce.  And it’s best to squeeze the calamansi over the beef.  Yum, yum, yum!
