    Categories: Asian Food Comments: 4

A few weeks ago, I came back to Banana Leaf Asian Cafe at SM the Block with my parents, just so that they may be able to try the food there.  Also, I wanted to check out some of the other dishes.  And the good thing is, I didn’t have any more horror side stories, like what I blogged about before.

Because there’s more of us now, I was able to taste more food.  Hehe.

Stir-Fried Malaysian Noble Leaves with Garlic, Php 188

It may look like a mess of weeds but it actually tastes good.  However, non-veggie-eating persons may not really agree with me.  But I love how garlicky it tastes.

    My rating:

Kimchi Fried Rice, Php 168, good for 2-3 persons

I don’t really understand why this should be called Kimchi Fried Rice, nor does it taste anything different from other fried rice that I’ve tasted.  It’s not that bad, but I just didn’t enjoy it that much.

    My rating:

Japanese Eel Fried Rice, Php 168, good for 2-3 persons

I hope one can distinguish this one from the Kimchi fried rice visually.  Well, they seem to really look alike.  But they taste different, trust me.  I like this one better.  But there’s very little of that Japanese eel for me to be able to tell it apart from the other ingredients.

    My rating:

Tilapia Fillet with Malayan Cream Sauce, Php 238, good for 2 persons

I love the cream sauce but I find that they’ve used too much that I wasn’t able to taste the tilapia anymore.  Maybe one can ask that they don’t put too much of the sauce or place it in a separate bowl?  I don’t know.  But then, at least, for the cream sauce, I’d give it a good rating.

    My rating:

Spareribs with Coffee sauce, Php 228, good for 2-3 persons

The coffee sauce did intrigue me that’s why I ordered this dish.  I wonder how they cooked this but I really enjoyed the sauce on the spareribs.  It would have been better though if the spareribs were more tender.  But then, not really that bad at all.

    My rating:

Pandanus Pancake Roll with Fresh Coconut, Php 80, good for 1-2 persons

My folks didn’t like this one because, according to them, it lacked the sweetness they’re expecting from a dessert.  However, I think it merits a higher rating because of how the pandan tasted like with the coconut.  I’ve eaten 1 1/2 of this dessert.  Hehe.  For people looking for that not-so-sweet dessert, I think this is for you.

    My rating:

By the way, for those who may be interested in holding meetings or small parties at Banana Leaf, here’s some information on set menus to choose from (I’ve got this from a set of flyers given to me by the resto’s marketing officer.  This is not a paid advertising.  I just thought maybe somebody would be interested) :
