CPK EDSA Shangri-La.  Grrr! for the stubborn bystander.  I think he wants to have his picture taken too.

Last week, my parents and I have decided to use the California Pizza Kitchen GC I got from PBA ’08.  It’s been a while since I’ve eaten at CPK.  The last time, I think, was during internship and it was at CPK Makati.  The one in the picture above is the storefront of CPK EDSA Shangri-La.  The lighted up ramp is a curiosity, makes one feel like going up a spacecraft or something.  And as for that bystander, I don’t know if he’s waiting for someone.  I’ve politely asked him to move out of the frame, but he’s quite stubborn and simply lowered his head.  Perhaps he thought I was only taking a photo of the brightly lit CPK name.

I like the whole carpeted dining area, which reminds me actually of a living room.  LOL.  But it gives that warm feeling and actually gets you in the mood to eat.  And the soft yellow lights makes it all a relaxing atmosphere.  The waiters are friendly too, and I noticed that they have ample knowledge of what’s on the menu that they could considerably answer almost all our questions about some of the entrees.

We didn’t eat much, as it’s only snack time for us then.  But we did have a pizza and a pasta:

    The Original BBQ Chicken Pizza

It’s one of their most popular pizzas and was the one introduced in their first restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1985.  For those who may not know, CPK pioneers Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax were actually lawyers before they’ve decided to go into the restaurant business.  Now, who would even think that lawyers could be brilliant pizza makers?!?!  What’s different, I think, with their pizzas is that they try to incorporate different flavors from different cultures into something that can be still called American.

Barbecue sauce, smoked Gouda, mozzarella cheeses, BBQ Chicken, sliced red onions and cilantro…well, eating the original BBQ chicken pizza doesn’t exactly remind me of eating barbecues.  Rather, I like how it tastes not so much as barbecue but still retain the sweet, thick taste of the barbecue sauce.  And the pizza crust is really so crunchy and tasty!  It wouldn’t make one feel like he’s simply eating bread, unlike other pizzas.

I want to try the other pizza flavors, but definitely this one’s good!

    My rating:

    Kung Pao Spaghetti

Now this is a pasta with classic Kung Pao sauce, garlic, green onions, peanuts and HOT red chilies.   Definitely spicy!  So if you’re not the spicy-food kind of a person, be sure to tell the attending waiter that you just want it mildly spicy.  Honestly, though, their definition of mildly spicy is still much spicy for me.  So perhaps, it would be helpful to further qualify that as “very mildly spicy”.  But I love its strong, sweet taste.  You can have this either with chicken or shrimp on it.  Serving is good for sharing between two people.

    My rating:

I’m sorry I’ve forgotten to take note of the prices.  But as an estimate, each person would have to spend between P450-P700 when dining here.  It would also be very good if you dine with several friends so you could share the expenses.  But then, of course, I need not tell you that because pizza’s always good eaten with friends!  The fun there is when everybody’s trying to grab the biggest slice of pizza and preventing others from doing so.  LOL.
