My Mom and I just finished with our gym workout (being her first time at FF) when Dad said he wanted to have some Chinese food and wanted to try Flavors of China. Oh well, there goes healthy eating out of the window…
I like Chinese foods but it seems to me a bit of a common fare already. There are just too numerous pseudo-Chinese restaurants that have sprouted all over the Metro. But, oh well, Daddy wants to go.
While waiting for Daddy to finish buying his toy helicopter (I think he’s having his second childhood), my Mom and I went ahead to Flavors of China so we could sit down and have some drinks. Mom was already hungry and has ordered us some soup.

This is a sinful concoction for people who’re trying to lose weight, especially that tempting quail egg. But then, we just love food. Maybe we’ll go dieting tomorrow instead. Ahahaha.
I don’t like the soup very much. I find it very salty and the consistency of the soup is thin. I ate enough just to get warm, pushed the bowl to the far corner and waited for my Dad to come.

Oh yeah, and there’s the usual fish crackers (I think it’s called kropek) as appetizer:

My rating: Do I even have to rate this? It taste like something that’s grocery-bought.
Soon, Dad arrived with his new toy (can’t post the picture yet because he hasn’t unboxed it) and finally, we ordered our lunch. It takes a while before they were able to serve our food, and even longer to respond to our requests to order. Hmmm, not very good.

Yang chow fried rice
I think this could already constitute as lunch, with all the ham and shrimp in it. I like it, but not loving it. It’s just an okay fried rice for me. I’ve tasted something better.

Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet tasted something like what you eat just to get your stomach filled with food. I don’t particularly remember anything special about it. Even the vinegar served with it tasted flat.

The redeeming dishes for lunch are Broccoli flowerets in garlic and Prawn Rolls with Bacon Wrap. Yum, yum!

The broccoli was crunchy and I like that there’s lots and lots of garlic in it. I think I can eat this alone for lunch and I’d still feel full.

Prawn Rolls with Bacon Wrap in Hot Salad
I didn’t think that prawns and bacon would be a good combination, but there it is sitting on the plate, with that warm, delicious, creamy sauce with pineapples, mango, and cucumber.

The bacon was wrapped around the prawn roll and cooked to its crunchiest best. The prawn roll inside is tender and sweet. I love munching this one!

And now comes my favorite part of each meal: dessert time.

This is actually my dad’s Buko Pandan sherbet. I thought of not having dessert, since I’ve already eaten too much. But I got so tempted when I saw the creamy foam and the green pandan jelly cubes. Aaaaarrrggggh, temptation! And I caved in. I love that it didn’t taste so sweet and that I can actually taste the pandan flavor.

So, will I go back to this restaurant? Hmmm, maybe. Perhaps for the prawn roll, I would.

wow! the buko pandan looks really good! i agree with you that most times you can’t taste the pandan, which is sad because its the whole essence of the dessert!

you cannot taste the pandan coz the one that you ate is served like halo-halo. the pandan is the flavoring for the gelatin but when you put crushed ice and milk, the melted liquid thins the pandan taste.
i think this reso is okay in terms of its pricing. note that this is not a very high class resto unlike other chinese restos out there. but it’s a decent place to eat if you’re craving for chinese food.
the one here in sta. rosa laguna, in sm city, seems to serve better-tasting foods coz i was also able to eat at the block. i can say that the flavor surely depends on cook and preparation even though it’s the same resto.
